Description
This is a Lionel 8900 Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Diecast 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive and Tender from 1979. This engine headed up the Santa Fe Famous American Railroad Set #1 from that year. It features magne-traction, the electronic mighty sound of steam, puffing smoke, working headlight, transformer controlled forward and neutral and reverse and a powerful Pullmor motor.
Introduced in its prototype form in the late 19th century, the 4-6-2 would take the world by storm at the turn of the 20th century, being seen as one of the biggest innovation in the history of locomotives — the 4-6-2 would quickly finds its place in rail-yards across the world. Heralded for its ability to haul passengers, the 4-6-2 was a versatile model hauling freight and coal as well, with tank variants being introduced later during the 20th century. Traveling at speeds upwards of 100mph the 4-6-2was featured on rail-ways ranging from Argentina to Egypt, and all the way to the far East in China!
