This is Bachmann 28696 On30 Baldwin 4-6-0 Steel Cab Steam Locomotive with DCC. Along with its 4-4-0 cousin, the 4-6-0 configuration was one of the most common wheel arrangements offered by locomotive manufacturers. The combination of speed and traction made 4-6-0s suitable for both freight and passenger service, and nearly every railroad used them. Our On30 locomotives are based on stock models from Baldwin’s narrow gauge catalog.

Introduced in the 19th century and further used during the 20th century, the 4-6-0 was a popular model thanks to its reliability and impressive stability when hitting speeds near 100mph. The 4-6-4 also referred to as a “10-wheeler” would eventually find its way in rail-yards around the world from the US to Finland, and even running the Cape Gauge in South Africa!

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The locomotive and tender have been custom decaled with road numbers and lettering by the previous owner. Sections of the locomotive’s boiler railing are broken and partially detached. The grab-iron pieces at the locomotive’s cab section are broken and partially detached. The locomotive’s cut-lever is broken off and the railing on the platform just above the cut-lever is also broken and partially detached. The tender has three wheel-sets broken from the trucks. The tender’s corner steps are broken and partially detached. One of the chains on the side of the tender’s chassis is broken off and not included. The tender’s rear headlamp is broken from its mount and is very loose. A thick layer of shelf dust has settled onto the locomotive and tender. The locomotive and tender show scratches and spots of paint loss throughout various sections of the shell and chassis. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is included.
