This is a Lionel 2245 Vintage O Gauge Texas Special F-3 AB Diesel Locomotive Set from 1954-55. The 2245 Texas Special F3 AB unit of the mid 1950s is another set of quality F3 diesels produced by Lionel. This unit is notable in that it was Lionel’s first F3 A unit to be produced with a single motor. Lionel catalogued the Texas Special F3 as an 027 gauge item. The 2245 was always sold as an AB combination. Even with a single motor and Magnetraction, it is a powerful locomotive. The 2245 is unusual in that it was produced for only two years and there are two distinct versions of both the A and B unit. The first of the single-motor F3s, the 2245 was included in several colorful sets and remains popular with collectors today. Features include a motor, portholes, operating horns, diecast metal trucks, an operating headlight, a reverse unit, metal wheels and operating knuckle couplers. The A unit is powered, the B unit is non-powered.

This set has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. The wheels and rolling pickups show signs of average use. There are rub marks, paint wear, decal cracking and chipping, and scratches on the surface of the shells and chassis. The overall appearance of each item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The shell on the powered A Unit comes disconnected from the chassis easily; please handle with care! The powered locomotive has been tested and was functional at the time of testing. It made a loud grinding sound and required adjusting with the slider on the chassis, but eventually ran forward and backward. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is included.
